28 April: World Day for Safety and Health at Work
World Day for Safety and Health at Work is celebrated every year on 28 April, a key date promoted by the International Labour Organization to raise awareness of the importance of preventing occupational accidents and diseases.
In 2025, the campaign revolves around the theme: ‘Revolutionising health and safety: the role of AI and digitalisation at work’. A theme that brings to the table the new challenges and opportunities that emerging technologies bring to the field of occupational health and safety.
Why is this approach important?
Digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) are changing the way we work. From intelligent surveillance systems to task automation platforms, these technologies can improve occupational risk prevention, but they also raise concerns. The ILO promotes a responsible approach to ensure that this technological transition is safe, equitable and people-centred.
